2019 Inaugural Golf Outing
The ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia, the local affiliate of the nation’s fastest-growing industry mentoring program, hosted 100+ members and friends of the design and construction community Monday, 21 October 2019 at The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale for their Inaugural Golf Tournament. The event netted over $70,000 for the development of career exposure opportunities and providing scholarships for current high school students and ACE alumni currently enrolled in higher education and focusing on an A-C-E (architecture, construction, or engineering) related career path.
“The event brought together industry partner companies throughout the region, that may not be familiar with the ACE program,” said ACE Executive Director Tiffany Millner, AIA, NOMA. “Through competition and camaraderie, we demonstrated the strength of Philadelphia’s design and construction industry while raising money to support the next generation of architects, engineers, and construction professionals.”
ACE Greater Philadelphia exposes traditionally underrepresented groups – minorities and young women – to educational and career opportunities available in ACE careers through mentoring, support, and scholarships. ACE alumna Oliwia Pine, a recent transfer from the Community College of Philadelphia and first year architecture student at Drexel University, spoke about how her experience in the ACE Mentor Program shaped her pursuit of an architectural career and made a meaningful impact on her future.
ACE Students are recruited from public and private high schools in the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey areas, with special effort made to reach underrepresented populations of women and minorities. Under the mentor-ship of professionals from leading design and construction firms, teams of students participate in a range of informative and stimulating after-school activities including engagement in project-based STEAM learning activities.
“The Inaugural ACE Golf Outing was a tremendous success due to the outpouring of support from so many in Design and Construction Industry,” said Dermid Kelly, Regional Vice President at Structure Tone and Co-Chair of the ACE Golf Committee. “The money raised at the event will help ACE make powerful, life-changing impacts in so many young people’s lives such as Oliwia as they pursue their career paths in the built environment.”
