We just received an update from the Hunting Park Community Garden! The planters that were built are being put to GREAT use and we can’t be more excited that our efforts were able to impact this community in such a positive way…
Monday, January 18, 2016, from 9:00am – 4:00 pm, partners General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) and ACE Mentor Program of Eastern PA brought volunteers from Turner Construction Company, Cope Linder Architects, and Stantec together for a Martin Luther King Day service project designed to support children’s education at Hunting Park Community Garden.
Fifteen high school students representing Swenson, Mastery Charter Thomas Campus, and Science Leadership Academy joined the volunteers. All of the students participate in the local affiliate of the national ACE Mentor Program, a nonprofit organization that engages and encourages high school students to consider careers in design and construction.
Together, the students and volunteers built four raised garden boxes for children’s educational purposes. Turner Construction Company will provide carpenters, equipment, and materials. GBCA will coordinate volunteer activities. Councilwoman Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez of the 7th District has been asked to participate in the day of service.
