Mentor of the Month | Vanessa Hejnas

“Working with the students on current projects going on in the city is fun because you get to see the students’ creativity.  The thing I find most exciting is talking to students who are being introduced to engineering for the first time!  They ask questions about items they do not know or understand and I am given the opportunity to show them how exciting our field can be.”

vah_linkedin_profile_photo-1Vanessa went to Widener University for Civil Engineering.  While there, she interned with O’Donnell & Naccarato and solidified her interest in structural engineering. In 2013, O’Donnell & Naccarato welcomed Vanessa as one of their full-time employees. She is now one of their Senior Project Designers.

Soon after she started working with O’Donnell & Naccarato, Vanessa learned about the ACE Mentor Program and her interest was immediately sparked. She often wished she had been exposed to engineering and all the ACE fields more when she was in high school; this program gave her the opportunity to introduce these fields to current high school students.

Vanessa personally enjoys the first year ACE students and being able to introduce them to various engineering fields.  She enjoys making the ACE meetings interactive with games and competitions.
